Swissair stands for Swiss Air Transport Company Limited and was the national airline of Switzerland. It had emerged on 1931 after merging Balair and Ad Astra Aero. It was commonly referred to as the ‘Flying Bank’ for the heavy revenue it earned for the country. Till early 1990s, the Zurich International Airport and the Geneva Cointrin International Airport was the hub for Swissair and its headquarter was at Zurich. It served almost 157 destinations through its abundant international and domestic flights.

With the occurrence of the 11th September’s mishap, Swissair’s operations and profitability has taken a backseat. However, the director’s of Swissair had pointed out internal interest conflicts as the reason behind its collapse.
During its collapse the airline of Switzerland belonged to SAirGroup, Crossair (the regional airline) and the Balair (a charter company). Later in the year 200, Crossair restarted the company by making Swiss International Air Lines and Swiss European Air Lines as its successors.
Reports say that Swissair has got merged with the Lufthansa Group and Deutsche Lufthansa AG (the national airline of Germany).

Today Swissair is an active member of the Star Alliance group. In the recent years the Swiss fleets have been renovated and new models have been incorporated. The Boeing and McDonell Douglas fleets have been withdrawn and different aircraft of the Airbus model have been taken in. It also operates the British Aerospace Avro Aerospace RJ-85and 100 aircraft.
It provides profitable and attractive packages to its domestic as well as international travelers. The aircrafts are segregated majorly into three classes namely first, business and economy. Facilities catered to the passengers largely vary as per the class. Apart from the special services the common ones are food and beverages, magazine, in-flight entertainment and so forth.
